COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAM
PEDIATRIC EYE EXAMS BY LICENSED OPTOMETRISTS
Visual abilities play a key role in early development. An optometrist can complete an eye exam even if your child doesn’t know their ABC’s or is not yet speaking in full sentences. They can use shapes, pictures and other child-friendly ways to evaluate vision and eye health.
Even if you have no concerns, your child should have a complete optometric eye exam at six months, before starting kindergarten, and annually throughout the school years to ensure optimal eye health and developmental progress.
OHIP covers annual eye exams for children 19 and under.
Eyes on Avenue is proud to be a Specialty Myopia Control Clinic. Our doctors and staff are educated and certified to dispense specialty spectacle lenses, contact lenses and eye drops that aid in the prevention of nearsightedness in children. Any child that is nearsighted between the ages of 6 and 17 is a candidate for myopia control. At your child's annual eye exam, our doctors get to know your child and their lifestyle while discussing the most appropriate myopia management plan for them. Once a treatment option is chosen for your child, they are enrolled in an annual myopia control program which includes follow-ups with the doctor and measurements of your child's eye length - the "axial length". Axial length is correlated to nearsightednss, and is tracked to evaluate the effectiveness of the chosen treatment.
